Reina Utsunomiya is Senior Director for NYC P-TECH Grades 9-14 Schools at the New York City Department of Education. As part of a team redesigning high schools for greater equity and access, she oversees program design and policy planning for these early college and career high schools. Previously Reina was responsible for coordinating the district’s improvement activities for schools identified for comprehensive reform under state and federal initiatives. She also worked as part of the Office Career and Technical Education from 2008 to 2010 to manage the overhaul of the citywide CTE program certification process for high schools.
Before joining the NYCDOE, Reina spent five years at the Council on Economic Education where she managed its domestic programs to promote economic and financial literacy education for both K-12 students and community groups. Reina also worked at the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership in its education and community program division. She is a 2007 Education Pioneers Fellow and a 2013-14 Princeton AlumniCorps Emerging Leader. Reina has a master’s degree in public administration from Columbia University’s School for International and Public Affairs and an undergraduate degree in Art History from New York University.
