Mr. Deon Jackson began his career at Lancaster High School (Lancaster, SC) as a teacher and assistant football coach. He joined Berkeley County School District (BCSD) as an assistant administrator and assistant football coach at Goose Creek High School before his promotion to assistant principal at Timberland High School. During his four-year tenure as an administrator at Timberland High, Mr. Jackson was named the 2009 BCSD High School Assistant Principal of the Year. Mr. Jackson later led the St. Stephen Middle School Rams before his selection as the principal of Cane Bay Middle School in 2011. In the fall of 2012, Mr. Jackson opened Cane Bay Middle School and was named the 2014 Berkeley County School District Principal of the Year.

Mr. Jackson currently serves as the district’s Senior Associate Superintendent of Operations and Administration. In this role, Mr. Jackson oversees the district’s Planning and Construction department, Maintenance and Facilities department, Transportation department, and the Safety and Security department. Mr. Jackson’s responsibilities also include oversight of the district’s growth management plan.

Berkeley County School District is the 4th largest and one of the fastest growing districts in the State of South Carolina.  With a student enrollment of 35,500 students, Berkeley County School District is projected to grow by at least 1,000 students per year for the next 20 years (or through 2035), bringing the enrollment to 55,000+.  The increase in enrollment will require new facilities to accommodate student growth as well as a comprehensive plan to maintain/address and modify existing facilities.  The District currently has 47 schools and 11 support facilities with more than 6 million square feet of space, which accommodates 4,500 employees.

Mr. Jackson received his bachelor’s degree in education from the Citadel, MCSC; his master’s degree in secondary education from The Citadel, CGPS; and his specialist degree from The Citadel, CGPS. Currently, Mr. Jackson is pursuing his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in Educational Leadership (K-12). His professional affiliations include a membership with the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) and the Association of Learning Environments (A4LE). Mr. Jackson serves on the Advisory Board for Eagle Harbor Ranch and as Treasurer of the Teacher’s Supply Closet Board of Directors.
