Dr. DeeDee Washington, a 22-year veteran educator, currently serves Greenville County Schools as Associate Superintendent for Academics. She is responsible for all aspects of the Academics program, including curriculum development, content area support, innovative instructional practices, professional development, college readiness, career technology education, school counseling services, early intervention, student support systems, including Special Education, Title I and Title III projects. Prior to this position, Dr. Washington served as a teacher for more than 10 years and in a number of administrative roles including curriculum facilitator, principal, and personnel director. .Just prior to being named the district’s associate superintendent, Dr. Washington served GCS as principal of Brushy Creek Elementary School. The school was named a Red Carpet School, a Palmetto’s Finest Finalist School, and a Palmetto Gold or Silver award winner for academic excellence and closing achievement gaps during each year of her leadership.
In May 2012, she was named Greenville County Schools’ Administrator of the Year. Dr. Washington earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina, master's degree from Converse College, and Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
